I recently learned about the company Hu.ma.ne, which was founded by ex-Apple employees and is working on a tech product that might be the next big thing following the iPhone and the Apple Watch.

Last night, I watched the TED talk in which former Apple designer and Humane co-founder Imran Chaudhri gave the world a first glimpse of what they’ve been developing.

In this exclusive preview of groundbreaking, unreleased technology, Imran envisions a future where AI enables our devices to “disappear.” He gives a sneak peek of his company’s new product—shown for the first time ever on the TED stage—and explains how it could change the way we interact with tech and the world around us.

Chaudhri believes that the future of technology involves creating screenless and standalone wearable devices that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) seamlessly into daily life.

He introduces a new wearable device and platform developed by his company, Humane, that is designed to be privacy-first and interact with the world in a natural and unobtrusive way.

The device allows users to access the power of computing while remaining present in their surroundings, enabling a more balanced and intuitive human-technology relationship.

Chaudhri demonstrates the potential of AI by showcasing features such as language translation, personalized assistance, and contextual understanding, emphasizing the transformative impact AI can have on our lives.

Imran activating the Humane device which is positioned in the pocket of his jacket. Source: https://youtu.be/gMsQO5u7-NQ

Imran believes that the future of technology involves creating screenless and standalone wearable devices that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) seamlessly into daily life.

Imran talks about how, as tech has evolved, computing devices have become smaller and smaller. He ends his presentation by saying the future is not on our face or in the palm of our hand.

Here is the TED talk.

This new technology reminds me a lot of the movie HER in which the lead character, Theodore Twombly, has a relationship with an operating system or AI partner which he interacts with via wireless earbuds and a device that looks a lot like what Humane is developing. Here is the trailer.

The concept looks fascinating and the possibilities are endless, but will this be the future of personal tech powered by AI? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I’m a long time Cape Town Football fan. I started supporting Cape Town Spurs, then Hellenic, then Ajax Cape Town and now I’m moving my allegiance to Cape Town City FC, as I love watching live football, especially in the Cape Town Stadium.

I’ve always wanted to be a season ticket holder and seeing that Cape Town City will be playing around 10+ of their home games at Cape Town Stadium, I decided to buy access to all their home games for the 2019/20 season.

Before buying my season tickets, I had a few pertinent questions that Cape Town City FC were kind enough to answer. I’ve included theses FAQs below as part of this post.

And here is a recent video I filmed watching Cape Town City FC beat Orlando Pirates 1:0 at the Cape Town Stadium, showing the fun vibe of watching local football live in person.

Season Ticket 2019/20 FAQs

Which stands at Cape Town Stadium will be open for CTCFC home games?

Basically the stadium is only opened for the amount of people expected at each home game. For a smaller game the stadium may open up blocks encompassing 5000 seats in total or for bigger games the stadium may open up the entire stadium.

Which stands at Cape Town Stadium are season ticket holders allowed to access?

You can sit in any block that is open (including 100 level, 200 level and 300 level), except for the 400 blocks (VIP seats) – these are not open to season ticket holders.

Is each season ticket linked to a specific individual? Can a season ticket only be used by the ticket owner to access a game or can it be used by anybody?

Each season ticket will have the holder’s name, member number and barcode. However, we will allow a holder to give their card to another person for a game if they cannot attend. This policy might not exist forever for the sake of full disclosure, but for this season (2019/20) you can 100% enter a home league game with a friend or relative’s season ticket.

For clarity, when you go to a CTCFC game with a season ticket it will be scanned at the entrance – that’s all. No identity/name check whatsoever.

Until when can fans buy season tickets?

Whenever. There is no cut off. Obviously you will lose value the later you buy it.

How much is a season ticket and where can I buy them?

Adult season ticket for 2019/20 costs R399. And a season ticket renewal is R299. You can buy season tickets online at https://ctcfcshop.com/

Today is the 14th June 2018. And you know what that means? It means that the 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off today. It’s all going down in Russia – 32 Teams, 64 Matches and a new World Champion will be crowned. So why am I so excited about the World Cup? To explain this I need to break this down into 3 points.

1. My Love For Football

To explain my love for football I need to backtrack to when I was much younger. As a 5 year old boy the first magazine I ever received was a Football magazine given to me by my grandfather. It was a German Football magazine called KICKER and it was a special edition covering the 1990 World Cup in Italy, which was won by Germany, but not a unified Germany – it was won by West Germany. They beat Argentina 1:0. Germany was awarded a penalty late in the game which was converted by Andreas Brehme in the 84th min.The players of that West German team become my heroes and helped me connect to my German heritage. These players included Jürgen Klinsmann, Rudy Völler, Lothar Matthäus, Andreas Brehme and Oliver Kahn. I started playing football at school about a year or two later and I kept being inspired by these players. A few years later, I got the opportunity to meet two of my all time football heros – Jürgen Klinsmann & Rudy Völler. For some reason the German team visited South Africa on a tour and the German School in Cape Town, which was the school I attended for 12 years, managed to arrange for Rudy Völler to visit and train our school team. It was absolutely amazing. I remember playing a practice game in front of him and I managed to score 3 goals. The German team also had a training session at the old Green Point Stadium, which was open to the public. I watched the training session and afterwards I managed to get Jurgen Klinsmann’s autograph. Those are two experiences and memories that I will never forget.I ended up playing Football for about 10 years at school and club level for Camps Bay FC in Cape Town. And for a good few years I chased the dream of becoming a professional footballer. The dream faded, but my love for football remained. So, while currently in Berlin I had a look at the local newspaper and enjoyed reading an article highlighting the 4 German captains that lifted the World Cup in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.

2. Enjoying The Football Festivities

I was fortunate enough to have been in Germany in 2006, when Germany hosted the World Cup. I did not attend any live games but I absolutely loved the vibe. Walking down the fan park, watching alongside thousands of others at public viewing venues. It was truly magical. Then in 2010 I got to experience the World Cup in South Africa. I attended 6 live matches and it was an amazing experience being in Cape Town for this once in a lifetime event.Even though the 2018 World Cup is taking place in Russia, I’m looking forward to the football fever that sweeps across Europe during the World Cup and the European Championship every two years. Each of these tournaments happen every 4 years, but because of the overlap one of them happens every 2 years.

3. National Pride & Unity – Bringing People Together

I love the way sport in general and in this case football brings people together in celebration.Sure we all want our favourite team to win, but at the end of the day it for the love of the game and the game is what brings people from all walks of life together in celebration.I think there is nothing wrong with a healthy dose of national pride. I’m very sad that South Africa did not manage to qualify for this year’s tournament, but I’ll definitely be supporting Germany as they defend their title and then I’ll also be supporting all African teams and also Iceland. I really like Iceland. Their supports are the best.So those are the 3 reasons why I’m super excited for the 2018 World Cup.I do want to acknowledge that there are some negative aspects and controversial topics to keep in mind when it comes to the FIFA World cup and other major sporting events. These include human rights issues, corruption and violence. Football certainly has changed a lot since 1990. Back then it was more about fair play and sportsmanship, where these days for many it seems to be more about business, money and winning at all costs. For this post I’m focusing on the positive aspects. Enjoying this global event, which brings people together to celebrate this beautiful game.If you’ll be following along, I hope you enjoy all the action and all the best to your favourite team. Thanks for reading, I’m Sean Twomey, wishing you an awesome day and I’ll chat to you soon.

After recently launching my vlog, one of the first questions I got was “Why do you vlog?”, which is a great question worth answering.

There are 4 reasons why I started vlogging: It’s fun, it nurtures my creativity, it’s part of my personal development process and I’d like to inspire my audience. Let me explain in more detail. Keep reading.

1. It’s Fun

Life is too short not to have fun. I enjoy seeking out and documenting new experiences. Capturing the moment and sharing it in form of photographs or a video brings me joy. Regularly creating vlog episodes gives me, even more reason to get out and explore while having fun.

2. Nurturing My Creativity

I’ve always enjoyed being creative. At the age of 16, I documented my first family holiday in Thailand with a bulky old school video recorder. In high school and my university years, I was seriously into creating and playing music.

Photography, filming, and editing has always sparked my creativity. Creating regular vlog episodes lets me explore, nurture and further develop my creativity by documenting and sharing experiences. Creating regular vlog episodes lets me explore, nurture and further develop my creativity by documenting and sharing experiences.

3. Increasing Self-Awareness

Over the past few years, I have been on a journey of personal development and self-discovery. Increasing my self-awareness has been a huge part of better understanding myself and my behavior. Recording myself regularly and then reviewing and editing the footage into a vlog episode is a great way of increasing my self-awareness and better understanding my behaviour.

It’s like attending a Toastmasters event where they film participants as they practice public speaking. Imagine someone filming you every other day and reviewing that footage. It’s a learning process, which lets me make subtle improvements.

4. Inspiring My Audience

I regularly watch my favourite vlogs online, which have provided me with hours of joy and inspiration. Whether it’s Gary Vaynerchuk documenting his entrepreneurial journey, Casey Neistat sharing his crazy adventures or Tom Tech Time reviewing drones – the content these creators share has changed my life for the better and for that I am grateful.

I would love to do the same for my audience. I’d like to share positive and inspiring experiences that show what’s possible and that life is worth living to it’s fullest.

Celebrating All Creators

I salute all creators that take the time to create something unique and share it with the world. Keep creating and keep sharing.

As part of a recent annual review process, I decided to audit my own life using a simple and straightforward method I learned about online. The self-assessment tool is commonly known as ‘The Wheel of Life’. Auditing your life provides a benchmark for where you are at and what you can improve on.

This specific tool also helps you understand how balanced your life is and what you can do to create more balance. I’ve broken down the process into the following 5 steps:

Auditing your life provides a benchmark for where you are at and what you can improve on. I’ve broken down the process into the following 5 steps:

Step 1: Assess & Rate Yourself

Assess and rate your life in the following 8 areas by giving yourself a score out of 10. How satisfied are you in each area of your life? 0 = Very Dissatisfied, Unhappy & Unfulfilled and 10 = Very Satisfied, Happy & Fulfilled.

Health: ?/10

Fitness: ?/10

Finances: ?/10

Spirituality: ?/10

Relationships: ?/10

Mental & Emotional: ?/10

Professional Development & Learning: ?/10

Creativity & Fun: ?/10

Note: Don’t overthink this process. Go with your intuition and write down the first score that comes to mind. I personally selected the above categories. Feel free to use the same or create your own. You might prefer including ‘Love & Romance’, ‘Family & Friends’, ‘Work & Career’, etc. It’s completely up to you how you’d like to break things down.

Step 2: Identifying Your Top 3 Goals

When done, re-order this list from lowest to highest scores. Move the items with lowest scores to the top.
Top 3 items are the areas of your life that you need to improve on to create more balance.

Step 3: Create A Visual Representation – Your Wheel of Life

Create a visual representation by doing the following:

[thrive_2step id=’1451′]Download and print my free ‘Wheel of Life’ template[/thrive_2step] or get a sheet of blank paper and draw a large even circle around that dot.

Draw 8 straight lines from the center to the circumference (it should like the spokes of a bicycle wheel).

Label each line with an area of your life (health, fitness, etc.)

Add your scores (out of 10) to each line by adding a dot on each straight line. For example: for 5/10 you would place your dot exactly half way between the center of the circle and circumference.

Next, connect all your dots to form a shape and shade in that area – this area will cover part of the large circle.

Step 4: Interpret Your Wheel of Life

The larger your shaded area the higher your overall score.

The rounder your shaded are, the more balanced your life. A perfectly round shaded area means that you’ve scored the same score for each area of your life

Step 5: Commit To Making Improvements & Changing Habits

Ask yourself what would it take to increase the scores of your top 3 priorities.

Make a list of action items and commit to taking action.

Example of Changing Habits

Health: Commit to going for your annual health checkup, schedule regular dentist appointments, eat a healthier diet, etc.

Fitness: Commit to going to the gym X times a week or schedule exercise into your calendar X times a week, etc.

Finances: Commit to increasing your income, decreasing your expenses, saving more and investing responsibly.

Spirituality: Commit to working on your spirituality. Take time out to explore, connect, learn and practice.

Relationships: Commit to healthy/functional relationships. Improve good relationships and end problematic ones.

Mental & Emotional: Commit to doing the emotional work and work on yourself. Cultivate a positive and grateful mindset.

Professional Development & Learning: Commit to learning something new every day – something that will help you overcome an existing challenge. Improve yourself in your professional capacity – read, learn, summarise and teach.

Creativity & Fun: Commit to taking life less seriously and have more fun. Set aside time to enjoy yourself.

Note: If you are struggling to change your habits, then dig deeper. Understand why you would like to improve this area of your life and why you are feeling resistance or unconscious limiting beliefs.

I recently read the article Your Life In Weeks and experienced a shift in my perception of the time that I have left in my life. After reading the article I was inspired and immediately started creating graphics visualising my own life.

At almost 32 years old, some might say that I still have my whole life ahead of me, but the truth is that I’ve used up either a third, possibly a half or maybe even more, depending on how long I get to live.

In the visualisations, I’ve used square symbols ☐ to show the weeks, months and years that I still have ahead of me and square symbols with a cross in them ☒ showing the weeks, months and years that I have already used up.

My Lifetime Visualisation in Years

The following graphic shows how many more years I have – assuming I’m fortunate enough to live to 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, and possibly even 90 or 100. At the end of each line, I’ve included how old I’ll be at that stage and what year it will be. So in 2025, I’ll be 40.

My Lifetime Visualisation in Months

The following graphic breaks this down even further and shows my lifetime in months. At the end of each line, I’ve included how old I’ll be at that stage and each line represents 3 years.

My Lifetime Visualisation in Weeks

And lastly, the following graphic breaks things down even further into weeks showing how many weeks I’ve used up and how many I might still have ahead of me. On the left of each line, I’ve included the year and each column represents a month. I’ve used the average of 4 weeks per month to keep it simple.

In Conclusion

Visualising a lifetime with blocks like this makes one thing very clear. The time we have on this planet is finite. As it stands, no human will live forever. Our time is limited and with every passing, day, week, month and year we get closer to the end.

This shift in perception has helped me get clear on how I want to spend my time and what I really want to do with the rest of my life. The sense of urgency is great for taking life by the horns and making every day count.I challenge you to create your own visualisations. I used a simple text editor app called TextWrangler for Mac, but you can use any simple word editing app to do the same.

I’m in my 12th year of being a vegetarian and I’ve never been happier and healthier. I’m writing this post in response to the same questions I get over and over again.

In summary, there are 4 reasons why I’m vegetarian: for my conscience, for the animals, for the environment and for my health. For more details on each of these, keep reading.

Just to clarify, technically I am a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian, which means that I don’t eat any animals, but I do eat dairy and eggs.

Terminology Explained

There are quite a few terms being used to describe limited diets. I often see people getting confused. Here are a few terms worth understanding:

A vegan does not eat, consume or use any products that are derived from animals. This includes not eating any meat, eggs or dairy and not wearing any animal products like leather or fur.

A Lacto-vegetarian diet excludes meat, fish, and poultry, as well as eggs and any foods containing eggs, however, dairy is included.

A pescetarian diet excludes meat and poultry, but includes fish, dairy and eggs.

A pollo vegetarian diet excludes red meat and fish but includes chicken, dairy and eggs.

A pesco pollo vegetarian diet excludes red meat but includes chicken, fish, dairy and eggs.

A semi-vegetarian diet means a person is cutting down on the amount of meat they are eating.

A week-day vegetarian diet means a person only eats meat on occasional weekends.

1. For my conscience

I reached a point where I had seen, heard and understood things that I could no longer support and participate in. I had seen what happens behind the closed doors of slaughterhouses, I experienced driving through cattle farming area in the USA and I had watched multiple documentaries including “Earthlings (2005)”.

By not eating any animals, I no longer support the factory farming industries that are run primarily to maximise output and profit.

2. For the animals

From a young age, I’ve had a love for animals. Animals are living beings, just like us, that feel pain and love. They deserve to be respected and loved, not mistreated, abused and butchered.

By not eating any animals, I no longer support the mistreatment, abuse and butchering of animals.

3. For the environment

We are depleting and wasting our planet’s resources at an alarming and unsustainable rate. Meat production industries are very energy-intensive. Many experts have suggested that switching our diets to a more plant-based diet will reduce carbon emissions. Cattle release methane, which is 32x worse than CO2.

By not eating any meat, I reduce my personal carbon footprint.
For more information: The carbon foodprint of 5 diets compared

4. For my health

It’s a fact that factory farms inject their livestock with large amounts of broad-spectrum antibiotics and hormones, which when consumed weakens our immune system and makes us immune to antibiotics (for when we need them to treat bacteria). There has also recently been research linking meat consumption to cancer.

By not eating any meat, I’m enhancing my health by not consuming high cholesterol, antibiotics and hormones.

5. Vegetarian food is delicious

As soon as you explore beyond traditional meat dishes, you will find amazing vegetarian meals.

Answers to FAQs

Here are a few other answers to common questions I get asked.

What do you eat?

Vegetables, grains, mushrooms, legumes, fruit, dairy, eggs, and tofu.

How do you get enough protein?

Firstly define how much protein you need. As part of my diet, I eat mushrooms, eggs, quinoa, dairy, tofu, nuts, chia seeds, etc.

Don’t you miss eating meat?

No, not at all. The thought of eating meat has become unpleasant. Over time when changing your behaviour your taste and food preferences change accordingly.

Resources

Here are some documentaries that changed my mindset and actions.

The gratitude flip is a simple mindset hack that lets you instantly flip from negativity and complaining to gratitude and optimism. Developing this habit has helped me minimise my negative thoughts while maximising mindfulness and gratitude.

It’s Really Simple

Every time you catch yourself mentally or verbally complaining about something, stop that train of thought and replace it with gratitude. Instead of starting your thought or sentence with “I’m so annoyed that …”, or “I hate the fact that …”, flip it to “I’m so grateful …” or “I’m so blessed …”.

I specifically chose the following photo for this post, because it shows children enjoying water. These are possibly poor children that have so much to complain about, yet they excited about having running water.

Here are some real world examples of how I’ve used the Gratitude Flip in my life.

Example 1: Air Travel

Complaint: I’m so annoyed that the flight is so expensive, that check-in is taking so long, that there is so little leg room, that the airline food is so terrible, that the flight is taking so long, etc.

Flipped Gratitude: I’m so grateful to even get the chance to enjoy air travel. This opens up the opportunity for me to explore new places and visit friends and family overseas. Modern flight is an amazing miracle. Climbing into a metal tube that transports you to a distant destination is truly unbelievable, yet these days so simple, safe and affordable. You even get to enjoy a meal and a drink while surfing the clouds.

Example 2: Technology & Connectivity

Complaint: I’m so annoyed that my computer/mobile phone is so slow and that the Internet keeps disconnecting.

Flipped Gratitude: I’m so grateful to have access to modern technology including the Internet, as it lets me learn, communicate and work online from almost anywhere.

Example 3: Illness & Pain

Complaint: I can’t stand this pain/injury I have in my leg.

Flipped Gratitude: I’m so grateful that I’m generally healthy. I have two legs and I can walk wherever I want to go. I can manage this pain and overcome this illness or injury.

Practice daily to make it an automated response.

Whenever you find something to complain about, you can flip it to uncover the gratitude, even in the most terrible situations. Give it a try and see how it affects your mindset. The more you practice the more it will turn into an automatic response. You’ll increase your overall level of gratitude and create an overall shift from negativity to optimism.

Next time before you flip your lid, stop and instead flip over to gratitude.
